1. Informs workers of the increasing risk of heat stress 
2. Provides prevention tools to mitigate the risks of heat stress 
3. Provides education on heat stress, strain, thermal regulation, and prevention }

The following functionalities are requested: 

• Heat Index and adjusted Wet Bulb Globe Temperature (WBGT): A function of the app that advises on heat danger in a specific area (geolocated) with algorithms that calculate WBGT and Heat Index. This function will require an algorithm to calculate and predict WBGT and Heat Index. 
• Timers: A function of the app that will give the user the ability to create in-app timers, alerts, and notifications of when to hydrate, work, and rest. 
• Symptoms: Allows the user of the app to identify symptoms of heat strain. 
• First Aid: Provide interactive, basic first aid information for possible cases of heat-related injuries. 
• Risk Factors: Provide users a better understanding of their risk factors associated with combatting heat stress.

Currently, the project is still under development. However, we are already able to see how the various inputs are used in calculating an adjusted Wet Bulb Globe Temperature, and a worker's heat stress level determined based on their work level

Thus far, all deliverables have been provided on time and within budget. We are quite pleased with the level of communication, their thoughtfulness into how the user interface is configured, and their focus on getting us the most comprehensive app by the agreed upon beta launch date.

They excel in distilling the complexities of scientific calculations into the app interface. This app requires a mix of both user-inputted and live weather data (pulled from local weather stations based on one's GPS coordinates). They are innovative in their approach as to how these various elements fit together to arrive at a sensible heat stress risk level calculation.

We received deliverables that met, or exceeded, our initial project goals and we can move on to front-end development.

Project management was responsive but light touch. We always knew where we stood, we knew when we needed to provide feedback or more information in order for their team to move forward, but other than that they ran the project. That was a great fit for us since a lack of bandwidth was one of the main reasons we contracted this work out.

My experience with design firms, or design and build, is that they have a process and our projects would be shoehorned into that process whether it fit well or not. Dualboot certainly has a process but they were very willing to modify it to fit what we actually needed and wanted rather than doing it their way because it's what they know. I think that made our project faster, cheaper, and got a better outcome.

They have delivered two "ready for market" applications that are now live with our first customers.

They were timely in responses. They took great pride in their work. There were several occasions where staff either worked on the weekend to identify and fix a bug or were on call for a client-driven deadline for a launch. The team was very easy to work with as well.

Thinking back to when we first started this project and weren't sure how long development would take, we had several team members on virtual calls. We all could have done a better job of right-sizing the team once we understood the project at hand. Once we got to the right support level for the particular projects, the value received matched our financial outlay.

Getting started and the initial deliverables were slow and didn't match the provided timeline but the world was dealing with a lot of variables (COVID, wars, etc.) that caused some delays that were outside of everyone's control. We have a project manager who keeps us informed of progress regularly and we have ongoing meetings that keep the project pushing forward.

Overall, their project management is second to none.

I was the technical co-founder of Bula, but I’m now the CEO of GetChkd Inc., which is a blockchain company. Bula has now been integrated with GetChkd Inc.

What challenge were you trying to address with Dualboot Partners?

We are creating a video-to-video, head-to-head social challenge mobile application that is built on the most cutting-edge technology with them.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Dualboot Partners has built a multiplatform mobile app for us from scratch; they’ve done development and design work. Although they do offer scoping and backend design as part of their offerings, we have a lot of documentation detailing what we want that we’ve shared with them. 

They’ve done all of the frontend design in Flutter, and we’ve done all the backend design. They’ve come to us with designs that we’ve added to. They’ve looked at a bunch of wireframes that had the color and the look that we want and they’ve modified the UX/UI. They’ve integrated pieces of the project alongside the GetChkd team.

The app has passwordless login and distributed video storage. It is video-to-video and users can challenge anyone anywhere, anytime. It allows users to record videos back and forth over minutes, days, or weeks until there’s a winner. There’s a functionality allowing a specific timeframe to be set. The video-based app houses the whole stories — beginning, middle, and end — created by users. 

We’re going to keep working with them for a while to add more features and make changes.

What is the team composition?

The team has scaled up and down. There have been as many as six people working with us and as few as 3 or 4. We've been in contact with everyone from project managers to developers.

What is the status of this engagement?

Our ongoing partnership started in January 2022.

How did you come to work with Dualboot Partners?

A person that worked at a startup hub started working at Dualboot Partners so I interviewed them. We had interviewed some other companies but Dualboot Partners had the team and the skill set that we needed. They had a fair number of Flutter programmers on staff so they could create code for both iOS and Android.

Dualboot Partners was also able to scale up and down and knew the startup world. They were willing to work with us to connect to the whole blockchain backend, which could be really tricky. They were willing to figure out how to make all of that work together in a really seamless way.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We launched the app in July 2022 and will start aggressively marketing it in January 2023. We’ve only done a limited release of the app in order to get feedback and we’re continuing to improve the features. I will say that most of our team can’t believe this is just the first version; it looks like a significantly more developed app.

How did the company perform from a project management standpoint?

We have stand-ups 2–3 times per week for 15–30 minutes and we’re constantly in touch via Slack. We’ve mainly used GitLab, Slack, and monday.com to manage the project.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Dualboot Partners has a really good attitude. When things get heated, they always stay calm and work through the issue with us. They are very pleasant to work with.

Are there any areas they could improve?

Given the complexity of the project, I don’t think there’s anything they could do differently. We’re very pleased with the product, performance, and pricing.

If you want the project to move quickly, go to them with a detailed scope of work explaining what you’re looking for.

Please describe your company and your position there.

I am the founder, CEO and CSO of FIND Genomics. Our early stage startup aims to accelerate biomedicine, by enabling innovation in cell biology to thrive.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

For what projects/services did your company hire Dualboot Partners, and what were your goals?

We are molecular cell scientists who identified a problem in a $1.2 Trillion market. Given our firsthand and experience, we knew the core of the problem well, we knew how to fix it. Initially we developed a minimal prototype that was tested by our target market that was conceptually well received, however next we needed to make it a “enterprise ready” MVP to truly implement this product into the highly demanding biomedical market.

We did not have the computational capabilities needed to translate this complex system into a platform that met all functional requirements and security requirements. This required a team of highly competent and dedicated back-end and font-end developers, which are typically not right away on the payroll of an early stage start-up.

Dualboot stepped in to take this role, and are currently helping us to get to market as efficient and cost effective as possible.

SOLUTION

How did you select this vendor and what were the deciding factors?

We have evaluated many vendors. But Dualboot stood out for a few reasons;

•  their engagement is not rigid from the get go. They acknowledge unknowns in the projects
• they communicate in order to get a deep understanding of our goals as a startup: product wise, operational and financial
• the process of formulating the SOW was flexible and fast
•  their pricing was reasonable compared to the other firms we spoke with
• their ratio developers:managers seemed reasonable.

Phase I (discovery phase) was information transfer from our team to the Dualboot developers, this included:

1. what architecture is already done and formulated
2. what additional features requirements are needed. Based on this analysis, the team could formulate a detailed roadmap and development cost estimate (low, mid, high).

Phase II was starting the build of the system in two week sprints. A special shout out to the UX designer: our product is technical and requires a deep knowledge about cell biology. The mind of a UX designer and a cell biologist could not be wired differently.

But their UX designer Ignacio (Nacho), together with product manager Brian took the patience to work with us to understand the flows needed to support cell scientists. They brought our initial designs and ideas to life in Figma, in a stunning design with innovative UX solutions. Being able to bring these worlds together, is synergy-- and the result is amazing.

Our team consists of a project manager, product manager, 1 technical lead, 2 backend developers, 2 front end developers, 1 UX designer and QA.

Not yet. The goal is to complete the platform in a month. So stay tuned.

We use Slack, Gitlab and Zoom. We have meetings twice a week. During the design phase, we worked with the designer on a daily basis.

Dualboot is impressive, because they did not shy away from a complex product, and they've demonstrated supportive, understanding flexibility throughout to process.

When there is a problem, they address it. They truly position themselves as partners. They live up to their company name!

Always, but in general I think this is an amazing firm to work with as a startup.
