Collaborating with Honeycomb Software we are building up a whole management system for the commercial real estate industry. A management tool that is easy to use and produces relevant data for the various functions required for effective property management. 

It allows you to get an overview of rental income, vacancy, expiration profile, financing, and valuations, run sensitivity and cash flow analyses, be reminded of events in your contracts, communicate efficiently with tenants and create reports with your key KPIs. To remain competitive in the market, it's essential to enhance the product by integrating new features and advanced analytics that align with evolving business dynamics and cater to customer demands.

If we had to nitpick, maybe the only thing we can suggest is that they should open offices all around the world. Not because their service was lacking, but simply because we enjoyed working with them so much that we wouldn't mind having their exceptional quality service at our doorstep wherever we go! All jokes aside, Honeycomb Software has been an outstanding partner, and we couldn't be happier with the level of expertise and dedication they brought to the table.

The high-level scope is to rewrite the application using new technology for improved efficiency and scalability. 

The project is currently in ongoing development, and while it is still in progress, we are pleased with the progress made so far. Ligo is a platform which allows users to connect with STEM talent across organizations and research institutions, to develop collaborative projects aimed at solving open innovation challenges within industries. We are launching an MVP to validate product-market fit, so we wanted it to work well and be a great product for users. That’s why we started to collaborate with Honeycomb Software, as we needed testing services.

SOLUTION

How did you select this vendor and what were the deciding factors?

After a few meetings and intro with the QA Engineer, we started the testing process. QA Engineer started with exploration testing of the platform and submitted the issues found in the Trello bug board with the attachments and repro steps. The development team had an opportunity to track it and work on fixing those issues. We were able to perform regression testing of the platform as well, which helped us to improve the product even more.

The project went initially through user experience validation using UX wireframes and a high-fidelity prototype. After insights were collected from this initial testing, we started developing a functional MVP and performed QA testing with Honeycomb Software to identify and correct bugs in the platform.

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

The main goal was to prepare the product for release. The result of the QA work was 30 reported issues, almost 50% of which were fixed and retested right away, the rest left to be handled in due course of work. The cooperation with the QA also gave us possible ideas for further improvement of our product.

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

At the very beginning, we outlined the scope which was subject to testing prior to our release and were able to see the progress according to the planned schedule. We were very flexible in our communication. Test reports were sent to us through e-mail, but also there was extensive effective communication of the QA with the developers in Discord messenger, which allowed instant feedback. There were also zoom calls once or twice a week to align our efforts.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

We appreciate the support during the testing process. The communication was great, and if we wanted to discuss something, we just jumped on a call and worked out a solution. Additionally, we got the opportunity to communicate with the QA lead as needed. We were also surprised by the quality of the deliverables and the test log that was provided, which allowed our development team to seamlessly replicate errors and helped us refine our own bug-fixing process.

So far, Honeycomb Software has exceeded our expectations. Initially, we planned to get our software to a certain stage by the end of 2022 with at least four developers. However, we’ve managed to reach that stage with just one full-time developer from our team and theirs. Overall, their team has been very efficient with their work.

How did Honeycomb Software perform from a project management standpoint?

They’ve done a perfect job from a project management standpoint — most of the work is completed ahead of schedule. For communication, we interact via Google Meet and email.
 
Are there any areas they could improve?

At one point, we were looking for a more senior developer because we felt that the person that was pushed forward was not fulfilling our needs. That was the only moment when we decided against expanding our relationship.

Honeycomb Software helped us design and develop our MVP. Initially, I provided them with a base code and some ideas for the UI/UX, although our input was very rudimentary. Therefore, they were in charge of developing almost the entire product. The technology stack was a mixture of Python and React, and we hosted the solution in Microsoft Azure.

I had a great experience working with Honeycomb Software, and they ultimately delivered a product we could both stand behind.

How did Honeycomb Software perform from a project management standpoint?

Initially, we worked together on a requirements document detailing our vision for the MVP, our needs, and the steps needed to complete the product, which made the process very transparent. Moreover, the project manager gave me access to their Slack channel and the project management side of Microsoft Azure, which they used to keep track of tasks. Therefore, anytime I wanted to check on the progress, I could simply log in and figure out what Honeycomb Software was doing.

As for communication, Honeycomb Software was incredibly responsive. Anytime I had a question, they answered immediately; there wasn’t any delay in our communication. In addition to our regular interactions via Slack, we had at least a weekly meeting via Microsoft Teams.

An experienced Quality Assurance Engineer provides great quality control. React, Apollo Client, Node.js, NPM, Git, Bit.cloud, and Redux are the key technologies used while developing the product.

As a result of tight cooperation, we successfully created MVP using react/redux/graphQL technologies and migrated to Progressive Web App at some point to have maximum mobile device support. Currently, we are working on new business features, maintaining the platform, and implementing customisations for existing customers.

Carfluent is in a way to production and it's improving all the time. The team has good feedback from potential partners and a project has a lot of advantages compared to competitors. As a main result, the project is in the last development stage and almost ready to release.

They’ve provided top-notch professionals through the entire process, from quoting to delivery. We came to Honeycomb with an idea of what we wanted to do, and they made it even better.

The platform is going to be a social platform for the agriculture industry, for all sorts of users, including service providers, farmers, ranchers, etc. We provided them with the design, and they worked within our budget to deliver the platform.

They did say I could brainstorm some marketing strategies with their resources even though those services weren't included in the package.

In all, we’ve worked with 10 people, ranging from sales and marketing people to the owner and our project designer. Additionally, they assigned software developers and QA teammates. There is also a project manager. Every single person has contributed equally. They’re an excellent team.They compose each group for a specific project based on the client's needs.

We haven’t launched the application yet, but their team has been incredibly friendly, knowledgeable, and thorough. Working with them is easy and intriguing, as they’re outspoken. Additionally, their management style is organized and dependable. Honeycomb was eager to take on our project, especially as they were new to our industry. They worked to embrace it and become highly knowledgeable.

How did Honeycomb Software perform from a project management standpoint?

They continue to provide excellent customer service, including during the Russian Invasion of Ukraine, where they’re based. We weren’t expecting to continue as normal when they were attacked, but they relocated their employees and returned to our regularly scheduled meetings within one week. That says a lot about their integrity and unity, as well as their resilience.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They are all very detailed and incredibly diligent when it comes to managing the project. Despite all the changes, pivots, and bottlenecks we throw at them, they’ve remained flexible and adaptable, delivering new timelines when needed.

They've prodded us throughout the whole relationship to stay within our timeline and keep us on track, which also means we stay on budget.

Honeycomb is incredibly proactive when it came to voicing their opinion on improving our project and certain aspects of it that we may have overlooked. They’re incredibly knowledgeable, even though they’ve never worked in our industry before. They have the ability to work with a large number of programs — Zoom, Slack, and Teams, included.
