My goals were to have a sleek, clean professional presence on the web. I wanted a website that was comprehensive but not too extensive, and was easy to maintain on my own.

I was chosen, and after reading various reviews and the breakdown provided of what services would be included, I trusted The Free Website Guys to deliver the type of website and ease of experience that I was looking for.

At the start of the project, I was asked to describe my ideas and goals for the website, as well as get the accounts set up. Along the way, they provided frequent updates of what they had been working on and what was required of me next (eg. picking a theme, customizing pages, etc). They laid out really clear instructions and provided many helpful videos to walk you through the various steps, which was very helpful for someone without web design experience. They also provided a helpful document and video for the handover once they completed all of the setup.

A couple of different team members worked on the project, but I only had contact with one person to ensure consistency and familiarity. The team functions well on the back end as there weren't any hiccups from information being transferred from my contact to the other developers.

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

The website looks great, and their hand-off video showed me how to update things in a much simpler way than what I was used to in previous WordPress sites. I'm currently working on adding the content and it's been smooth sailing!

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

The communication was great - they sent me an update every step of the way and an estimate on when the next stage would be completed. Communication was done via email mostly, with some information collected using Google Forms, and a screen capture video for customization specifications.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

The fact that they offer free website development in the first place. This is not something that is accessible to everyone financially, and they are much more knowledgeable and competent than someone learning it all on their own. They were very good at working with people unfamiliar with web design and explained everything clearly.

Are there any areas for improvement?

Not from my experience - it was smooth from start to finish.

Some developing was done by me but very well explained and very simple I have fun done it, and now have the tools to do the same for my website with the training that’s was provided. First of all, I liked their website. Very clear, all the questions answered in advance, simple and intuitive. That was a big factor in my decision. Second, the value proposition was unique:

I already had a website and hosting and all I needed to do was continue my hosting services and I had the chance to have a professionally designed website if I apply to work with them. Finally, the cherry on top, was the really short time in which this was achieved (including my personalised preferences).

The work went very smoothly - I was always guided, I had constant interaction and follow-up and I always knew in which stage we are and what are the next steps.

I had my new hosting set up, they made available for me high-quality website templates, did all the back-end work in Wordpress (including google analytics integration and tools to help my website load fast while maintaining high quality images) - they even helped me chose my new domain (NOT in the list of offered services).

I primarily worked with Sven, the Lead Developer - he passed all the needed information over to me and this made it very easy to keep track of where we are and needed steps from my end.

I am on my way to launching my site and I feel great about it. As a solo-preneur with no web development skills, I was dreading making any updates on my website because it was such an intense and laborious task. Now I have easy-to-use templates and I finally feel that I have room to breathe when it comes to my online activities.

The site looks extremely professional and I have already received compliments on the design from the pool of people I showed it to before the launch. It looks professional, de-cluttered and yet free-spirited - exactly what I was looking for. I am convinced my clients will love it too.

Their project management style is way above expectations. Constant follow up, detailed instructions, clear deadlines, a lot of involvement in answering all my questions and providing insight (and, as an over-thinker, trust me when I say I was impressed, because I reached out a lot!).

I also changed my mind several times during the project, which they accommodated so quickly (and graciously). I wish every team I will work with in the future would have their level of skill inn this area.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

The overall way of organising the project was the most impressive for me. It was not even a second overwhelming, the website looks amazing, it's very easy to update, all the analytics are already plugged in, the back-up is set up and automated - All I had to do was just infuse it with my ideas & preferences and poof - done.

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

It's one of those few times when I am pleased with absolutely everything that happened during the project. If I could shout from the top of the mountain "If you're considering applying to work with the Free Website Guys, do it!" - I would do it from all my heart.

Actually they selected me and at first, I was a little reluctant because I didn't know what I was looking to create. However, upon reviewing some of their past work and the suggestions they offered I was sold!

Configurations were done on the front and back end of the website. ex. loaded my desired theme, built pages, set sight navigation with a new page structure. also configured contact forms to send emails, social share icons, loaded my Logo, and a whole lot of other stuff. :)

There were two. Sven was my initial and ongoing contact, while Dave provided explanatory videos from start to finish.

I am still in the process of launching the website with my flare but have no doubt that it will enhance my business.

Sven the project manager, was cordial, informative, and patient while providing concise and very easy to understand steps they were using throughout the entire process while keeping me informed of their progress which included the timelines that each step would take to complete. As I stated initially I have no technical skills and tend to panic when I'm not sure what to do. Sven was very understanding and helpful to ensure I felt comfortable and knowledgeable as to what was expected of me to assist in the process.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

Their professionalism coupled with their compassion for their clients impressed me the most. I felt very comfortable working with them because throughout the time it took to create the website, there was a friendly rapport was built between us. I truly felt like I was in good hands and the end result proved that without a doubt. The website is beautiful!

Since Day 1, the Free Website Guys were brilliant. They initially helped us transfer the domain we already had into Bluehost. A definitely tricky back and forth but it worked seamless using all their guidance and explanations.

Once that was setup, they took care of setting up everything in the backend on Wordpress - a process that can be very daunting for anyone who hasn't used Wordpress before or created a website on there. They setup essential plugins for best management and website performance based on their extense experience.

They additionally setup the Google analytics and backup plugins in order to keep our site saved externally in case anything happens. In regards to communication, working with them was easy and straightforward. Every step of the way was explained with video recording.

I personally found this method very new but also very efficient/and easy to understand. I also had to record a video myself asking for the adaptations required for the theme we were using for the website.

Overall, the Free Website Guys made the process easy to understand and they helped us with all the adaptions we needed for the website. They also additionally setup a language plugin,since my sister is able to give therapy in three languages as this was a crucial for the website.

We are still setting up the creative adaptations with pictures and text for the website, but I have a very positive feeling that this will help launch my sister's career faster than with her old website.

Impressive! We were able to get all done by emails and video recordings. The Free Website Guys work well digitally and are setup for the future working environment - especially when projects are of smaller size. I can imagine they also offer 121 meetings if they are working on a more complicated endeavours.

I was contacted by someone on Facebook after they left a comment in a Facebook group I was part of. I was then emailed by Sven to complete an initial questionnaire to see if we'd be a fit. From that, I was chosen and we moved ahead with it straight away.

The project took places in a number of stages, with lots of communication in between. First they described the steps of the project in detail, which really helped in understanding what the process would be. I was then asked to purchase the domain hosting through their affiliate link, which was quick and easy to do. '

As soon as that was done, Sven and his team set up the back end of the website, helped me pick a theme and set up the web pages in the way that I wanted. The overall process was simple, easy and no-hassle - with a great website at the end!

I only had the handover a few days ago and I'm still working on creating the ideal look of the front end of the website from my side but the results have been great so far. It has greatly helped to have someone to sort the back end and install all the plug-ins so that I didn't have to research and constantly assess each stage but rather leave it to the professionals, to which they did a great job.

Even though all communication was via email, it was super efficient and thorough. Sven made sure I was happy before moving on to the next steps of the process and I felt reassured at each stage.

They built a website for my new photography business. I decided to split my current photography into two one for weddings and the other for portraiture. I had just got done redoing my weddings website and I was dreading working on yet another. I have a tiny bit of web design background, so things like this take me WAY longer than just hiring a professional. I just wanted a pretty site that would be responsive on both desktop and mobile.

I heard about them in an entrepreneurial Facebook group. After reading over their site and loving what I saw, I thought I'll give it a shot. The worst they could say is 'no' and not pick me. But I got lucky and here we are today, I have a lovely new site and it's all thanks to them!

I received their welcome email and they had the easiest steps to follow. Literally anyone could be walked through the steps. Video tutorials in each one that guided me along the way to make sure everything was just right. It was AWESOME!

I worked with Sven. He was very responsive throughout our emails and moved the project along super quick. It was done in a blink of an eye!

Not yet, I need to load in the content of my site, but I can imagine that it will gain traction in no time!

As mentioned before, Sven was on top of communication. Everything happened very quickly, even when he said they had a heavy workload.

That they did my whole site from nothing within a matter of weeks! And it's beautiful, for no cost to me! I literally can not thank them enough. I would recommend working with them on any development project. If I got this kind of service for an unpaid project, I can only imagine if I was a paying customer!
